Made from a retired steel ring from the historical Flying Horses Carousel in Oak Bluffs, MA. The Flying Horses is the oldest operating platform carousel in the U.S., and one of only a handful that still feature the once popular “ring game.”
The carousel is special to me as someone who grew up on Martha’s Vineyard — even more so because my late father was the mechanic who kept the machinery running for about ten years when I was in middle and high school, and it was one of my first jobs as a teenager. I’ve been in the basement, the attic, loaded the ring arms, managed the crowds, pulled the lever that makes it go, caught thousands upon thousands of rings. Every spring, I open the season by taking a solo ride, and every time, I have just as much fun as I did as a kid.
I love repurposing the rusty rings that can no longer be used by the carousel, and making them into beautiful keepsakes for others who love the Flying Horses, and summer on the Vineyard, as much as I do.
